About the teachers:

LEILA FARID is one of the top performers in Egypt today. She can be
seen nightly in the best nightclubs and Nile cruises in Cairo. Leila
dances for the top Arabic weddings and parties in Egypt and throughout
the Gulf, Turkey and Europe. Leila’s performances, both dancing and
acting, on television and in the cinema have made her a recognizable
personality throughout the Middle East. She has produced some of the
best loved albums of Egyptian dance music on the market as well as
performance and teaching DVDs. Leila has taught dance workshops around
the world and is the creator of Camp Negum, a yearly live music and
dance event in Egypt that offers students the opportunity to work
closely with Egyptian musicians and superstar Egyptian teachers.

AMINA GOODYEAR has been a cornerstone of Arabic dance and music in the
Bay Area for over 40 years. As a performer, teacher, musician and
producer she has influenced generations of dancers with her knowledge
and her example. Amina’s performance career began at San Francisco's
famous Bagdad Cabaret, and over the years she has performed in
countless venues from nightclubs and theaters to museums, festivals and
fairs. In 1976 she founded the Aswan Dancers, her Egyptian dance
company now celebrating more than 30 years of performance. Amina’s work
as a choreographer and performer is loved for its uniquely Egyptian
aesthetic sensibility and sense of humor. In addition to five regular
weekly classes at her studio she has a full schedule of private
classes. As a life-long student and performer of Arabic music, Amina
has played percussion on the nightclub and theater stage with a number
of San Francisco’s best-known Arabic musicians such as Reda Darwish,
the Georges Lammam Ensemble, Susu Pampanin, the Aswat Arabic Ensemble,
and more. She has served as a judge, panelist and committee member
numerous times in the Bay Area and nationally.
